Before even making an appointment to see a doctor, individuals recognizing a potential health problem may find a website that can guide them in deciding whether they need to consult with a doctor. Faced with weeks of waiting for a doctor appointment, the extensive information available on line may serve as an intermediate solution.

Pregnancy can be a time of intense monitoring of health and weight. Women can often find themselves plagued with mood swings and a very unpredictable appetite. Just mentioning a particular food may bring on a feeling of queasiness, and pregnant women may be frustrated by cravings for foods, like processed meats, that they are instructed to limit or avoid while pregnant.

Sometimes at the expense of other important areas of life, including their academic goals, young girls work to develop their body into their ideal image. The obsession can become unhealthy, turning an interest in a perfect body into a full-blown eating disorder.

Compulsive eating has been described as a type of addiction since excessive overeating can affect the same reward system in the brain that is altered by substance abuse. Although compulsive eating is not currently classified as a distinct psychiatric disorder, recent research has not only revealed that compulsive eating shares similar characteristics with alcohol and drug addictions, but clinical treatment methods for compulsive drug disorders may also help treat compulsive eating behavior.
